Preiskel Elective Prize in Surgery
Three grants of up to £500 are awarded to clinical students at a UK medical school wishing to pursue a career in surgery and planning to undertake their elective attachment in 'Surgery in the Developing World' during the 2010/11 academic year.

The Healing Foundation
The Healing Foundation offers funding to support student electives involving research into surgical care for those with disfigurement and loss of function.
Four awards are offered in partnership with various national bodies:
· British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) are offering £1200 for a 6-8 week supervised research project in the area of research activities relevant to "disfigurement and visible loss of function".
· British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) are offering £1200 for a 6-8 week supervised research project in research relevant to "disfigurement and visible loss of function" in the area of hand surgery.
· British Burn Association (BBA) are offering a grant to a student undertaking research relevant to "burns, disfigurement and visible loss of function".
· Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland (CFSGB&I) are offering funding for research activities relevant to "disfigurement and visible loss of function".
The research should address improvements in surgical care or basic biological processes with a view to helping patients. All research must be carried out in the UK or Ireland.

BMA Welsh Council Sherman Foundation Fund
Five grants available, each worth up to £500, to support electives of benefit to Wales.
To apply you need to be a final year medical student living in Wales and wish to pursue an elective promoting medical studies, medical research or links between the medical profession and the community in Wales. International research projects will be considered but only if they would be of benefit to the general population of Wales.

Leukaemia Research Fund
The Leukaemia Research Fund offers 5 awards of £1200 each for students undertaking electives in haematological malignancy. £600 is awarded before the elective and £600 on receipt of a post-elective report.
The electives can be taken anywhere in the world and should involve haematological medicine or research that concerns the leukaemias or allied disorders.
Applications should be made through the Registry/Dean at your medical school. They should include a description of the proposed placement, a letter of acceptance from the place to be visited, a summary of expenses, a brief CV and a letter of recommendation from the Dean.

Royal College of Physicians - Oscar Reginald Lewis Wilson Bequest elective award
Awards are made annually to students wishing to spend their elective period abroad. An additional prize worth £100 is awarded to the student who submits the best report on the elective period.
In January, Deans of medical schools are asked to nominate one student per school to be put forward for a scholarship.
