You can apply to as many sources as you want for funding. Some may only give you small amounts but every little helps and your funds can be made up from many different sources.
Possible sources:
· Personal contribution – from savings or family
· Drug companies
· Medical equipment companies (may offer equipment if not money)
· Non-medical companies (who want to promote social responsibility)
· Charities, public bodies
· Smaller local companies
· Your institution
· Your old school (if they have a lot of money and you can offer something in return)
· Local hospitals
· Fundraising through rotary clubs, local churches
· Own sources – rent out room when away, sell belongings
See ‘Sources of Bursaries and Grants for Your Elective’ on this site, for more detailed information on one common source of Elective funding.
Do a bit of searching and digging. Contact hospitals and companies or even the local paper and try and sell them your ideas. Find out if your institution offer grants or if the hospitals you are thinking of going to do. Try as many places as you can think of. They can only say no!
When applying to grant making bodies only apply to organisations that match your specifications.
