The British Medical Association website has a directory of sources for funding an elective.
www.rdinfo.org.uk
A huge list of funding links for doctors and medical students, mostly for research fellowships. Some of those that do fund medical electives are listed below but the website is also worth checking as updates appear regularly. There is also a section on funding by pharmaceutical companies – useful for obtaining contacts and addresses.
www.medicsworld.co.uk
Advice on all aspects of elective planning and lists various organisations offering awards for electives (you need to register on the site first, but this is free). Information from this site also appears in the book 'The Medics Guide to Work and Electives around the World' (by Mark Wilson, published by Hodder Arnold, updated regularly).
www.medsin.org
The UK branch of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Association) formed with the purpose of exchanging students between countries. Raise your awareness of global health issues and find contacts to help you organise your elective fee-free.
