MDDUS
The Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland offers free membership to UK medical students. As a student MDDUS member you’ll be eligible for:
· Free elective indemnity worldwide
· The MDDUS Guide to Electives
· The chance to apply for an elective scholarship.
Elective scholarships are available through the British Medical and Dental Students Trust (BMDST), a charitable organisation. MDDUS members can apply for awards of £100 and £1000. The MDDUS is an independent organisation offering legal advice and professional indemnity for doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals.

Epidemiology & Public Health Section Brooke Bursary Award
Two awards of £800 each are being offered to students planning an elective abroad in the area of public health or epidemiology.
Applications should be no longer than 750 words and will be assessed on the basis of public health relevance, methodology and supervisory input.

CoScan Travel Awards

Grants of between £75 - 150 towards travel, fees and accommodation for people aged 15 – 25 undertaking a project of a broadly educational nature involving travel between UK and Scandinavia.

The British Nutrition Foundation
The Foundation operates the Denis Burkett Study Awards. Up to 10 awards of £750 each are offered to students undertaking elective projects in developing countries. The projects must centre on food and nutrition and its relationship to health and disease.
An Application Form must be submitted electronically accompanied by your CV and a letter from your Head of Department or supervisor confirming that the arrangements for the elective have been agreed both in the UK and in the country to be visited.

The Edinburgh Medical Missionary Society
The Society provides bursaries to medical students in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
Students must be undertaking an elective at a mission hospital in a developing country. Students with an active Christian testimony are preferred.
Awards are made based on applicant’s desires to experience healthcare in a "mission" context.
Applications can be submitted any time and take about 6 to 8 weeks to assess. They must be supported by two referees. Email info@emms.org for an application form.
