Royal Navy Medical Cadetship
- The Royal Navy offers a salary of £13,296 rising to £16,625 a year during the final 3 years of medical school
- The Royal Navy will also pay your tuition fees, a London Allowance (if applicable) and a £50 book allowance
- You will have the opportunity of doing an overseas medical elective with the Royal Navy
- While at university you hold the rank of Surgeon Sub-Lieutenant and follow your normal medical school training. After graduation you are appointed to your first naval post where you continue your F1 training in the rank of acting Surgeon Lieutenant
- As a Medical Cadet you’re required to join the Royal Navy on a Short Commission of 6 years from the date of your full General Medical Council registration
- Medical officers spend 7 weeks training at a Royal Naval College. The training is demanding and the Navy recommend that officers have a good level of fitness beforehand
- Potential medical officers must attend a 2-day interview board which includes a formal interview plus various physical and mental tasks
- Naval doctors undergo specialist training in aviation and underwater medicine and there are lots of opportunities for further specialist training
