Funding for 2008/2009
We’ve updated the site to include the latest information on student funding for the 2008/09 academic year. This includes information on:
:
- Increases in the household income threshold for the full maintenance grant for new students in England from £17,000 to £25,000 with a partial grant being available up to household income of £60,005. For a student from a family on £40,000 pa this will mean a grant of about a £1000.
- Repayment holidays on student loans for students from England due to start repayment of their loan from April 2012.
- Introduction of Long Courses Loans for new students in England and Northern Ireland.
- Major changes to income assessment for new and continuing students from Scotland.
- Extended eligibility for the Young Students' Bursary for new and continuing students from Scotland.
- The abolition of the Graduate Endowment, for students living and studying in Scotland, graduating after 1 April 2007.
- Increases in the Disabled Students' Allowances.
- Deadlines for applying for student support in 2008/09.

Information on welfare benefits, tax credits and income tax has also been updated for the 2008/09 tax year which started on 6 April 2008. There are some major changes to welfare benefits in the pipeline - check out the related website link for more information.
