How to apply for financial support - UK students

• Ask for an application form from the Local Authority (LA) in whose area you normally live or
• Ask for an application form from the SLC if you live in an area testing the new finance arrangements or
• Apply online/download a form
• The Form is PN1  

Current students in England

• If you’ve applied for financial support before you'll automatically be sent details of how to apply. Contact your LA/SLC if you don't receive information by the deadlines or  
• Apply online
• If you've not applied for financial support before follow the instructions for new students

From your fifth year of study on you'll apply only for the non income-assessed student loan for maintenance from your LA/SLC. Apply to the NHS Grants Unit for payment of your tuition fees and living cost support. You should be sent an application form.

New students in Northern Ireland

• Ask for an application form from the ELB in whose area you normally live or
• Apply online/download a form
• The Form is PN1

Current students in Northern Ireland

• If you’ve applied for financial support before you'll be sent details of how to apply. Contact your ELB if you don’t receive information by the deadlines or
• Apply online
• If you have not applied for financial support before follow the instructions for new students

Continue to apply to your ELB for all financial support throughout your course even when you become eligible to claim DHSPSS bursary support from your fifth year of study onwards. Your ELB will tell you how to apply. 

New students in Scotland

• Apply to SAAS  wherever you live in Scotland
• Apply online or
• Download an application form or 
• Get a paper copy from your school
• Application form is called Form SAS3

Current students in Scotland

• If you’re a current student you may be sent a pre-printed shortened application form by post or email link. To ask for a different amount of support from last year you must fill in a Form SAS3
• Otherwise apply on Form SAS3
• Apply online or
• Download an application form or
• Get a paper copy from your University

Continue to apply to SAAS for all financial support throughout your course even when you become eligible to claim the Scottish Executive Health Department Bursary support.

 New students in Wales

• Apply to the Local Authority (LA) in whose area you normally live
